What is the Past Simple?
Usamos o Past Simple para falar sobre ações que já aconteceram — ontem, semana passada, no fim de semana, em 2020…

Para verbos regulares, a regra é simples: adicione -ED ao final do verbo. A forma é a mesma para todas as pessoas (I, you, he, she, we, they).
verb + ED   →   work → worked  ·  watch → watched  ·  cook → cooked
Affirmative — frase positiva

Estrutura

Subject + verb + ed + ...
I worked from home yesterday. (Eu trabalhei de casa ontem.) She cooked dinner for her family. (Ela cozinhou o jantar.) They walked to the park. (Eles caminharam até o parque.) He watched a movie last night. (Ele assistiu um filme ontem à noite.)
Negative — frase negativa

Estrutura

Subject + didn't + verb (base form) + ...
I didn't work yesterday. (Eu não trabalhei ontem.) She didn't cook dinner. (Ela não cozinhou o jantar.) They didn't walk — they took the bus. (Eles não caminharam.) He didn't watch TV last night. (Ele não assistiu TV.)
Atenção: Na negativa, o verbo volta para a forma base — sem -ED!
Errado: She didn't watched.    Correto: She didn't watch.

Did + subject + verb (base form) + ...?
Did you work yesterday? (Você trabalhou ontem?) Did she cook dinner? (Ela cozinhou o jantar?) What did you do last night? (O que você fez ontem à noite?) Where did they go? (Onde eles foram?)
Atenção: Na pergunta, o verbo também volta para a forma base — sem -ED!
Errado: Did she watched?    Correto: Did she watch?

Spelling rules — Como escrever o -ED

Existem 4 regras de ortografia para o passado regular em inglês:

Regra 1 — Adiciona -ED

Maioria dos verbos
  • work → worked
  • watch → watched
  • call → called
  • clean → cleaned
  • cook → cooked

Regra 2 — Adiciona só -D

Verbo já termina em -E
  • live → lived
  • dance → danced
  • love → loved
  • practice → practiced
  • exercise → exercised

Regra 3 — Troca Y por -IED

Termina em consoante + Y
  • study → studied
  • try → tried
  • carry → carried
  • worry → worried

Regra 4 — Dobra a consoante

Verbo curto termina em CVC
  • stop → stopped
  • plan → planned
  • chat → chatted
  • jog → jogged
